There is a strong genetic component in Coeliac Disease. Almost all persons with coeliac disease have immune system genes (tissue types) coding for HLA DQ2 or HLA DQ8. This blood test will look for the presence or absence of these genes. As results are not affected by gluten or wheat consumption, this is an ideal test for those who are already avoiding gluten. Due to the strong genetic link this test can also be helpful with identifying individuals from families known to have coeliac disease. The presence of these genes does not mean the individual has coeliac disease but does suggest an increased probability of developing the disease. This is a saliva test making it easy to conduct at home. The test kit is sent direct to your home. On completion the sample needs to be sent recorded delivery direct to the lab for analysis. Results are emailed within 14 days.
